||This 40-hour course is for the person who wants to lifeguard at a community pool. The course covers skills and knowledge necessary to respond to aquatic emergencies, including first aid and CPR for the professional rescuer. Prerequisites: Be at least 15 yrs. old before course completion (no exceptions). Must be able to swim 300 yds. continuously using front crawl or breaststroke; swim 20 yds. dive 7-10 ft. retrieve 10 lb. brick, surface and then swim 20 yds. back to starting point and exit the water without use of ladder or stairs; tread water two minutes. Students who pass the class receive a certificate valid for two years. Note: This program does NOT qualify you to lifeguard for the Park Authority.
