(5-Adult) Put your hands on history. Tour Sully as never before with the chance to touch objects from the past. Examples of redware dishes, blue and white china, tools, clothing, and furniture are touchable during this unique tour.
Poetry of the Past
(6-Adult) Celebrate National Poetry Month by touring Ellanor C. Lawrence Park and learning about the residents who lived there. Then, settle in by the campfire as you read poems inspired by historical events, including a poem written by one of Walney's early residents inspired by a building onsite. End the evening by writing your own poem and workshopping it with a published poet. Bring your own notebook.
Storytime on the Hill
(2-12 yrs.) Bundle up in your jammies and bring blankets to sit on and snuggle in as you listen to stories from long ago the way the Mason family may have once done. Enjoy the sunset and spectacular view from Historic Huntley. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Taux Trail for Homeschool
(6-12 yrs.) Students spend two hours immersed in the life of Virginia Indians 400 years ago. Grind corn, make a clay pot, master corn darts and other activities.
Tea is Served
(6-Adult) A special tea for young ladies and a special woman in their lives. Wear your Sunday best for an elegant, fun afternoon.
The Buzz on Bees
(6-12 yrs.) Join Karen Waltman, Ellanor C. Lawrence Park's volunteer beekeeper, as she takes us through the ins and outs of a bee colony. Learn the park's history of bees going back to the 1840s, learn how colonies thrive and grow and watch as we open the bee boxes. End the fun evening with a taste of honey from our hive.
The Women of Historic Huntley
(Adult) A society matron, an enslaved wife and mother, a farmer's daughter, a military wife; Historic Huntley has been home to some interesting women and has seen the lives of women change dramatically since the house was built in 1825. See Huntley from a refreshingly different view as we stroll the house and grounds.
Twilight Hilltop Tour
(Adults) Historic Huntley sits high upon a hill overlooking Hybla Valley and Huntley Meadows Park. It's a dramatic setting made all the more stunning by the setting sun. Join us after hours for a special tour and see the house in a different light. Light refreshments served afterward. Dress appropriately for the weather.
Victory in Europe Ice Cream Social
(5-Adult) In 1945 when World War II ended in Europe, America celebrated! Join our celebration at the Spindle Sears House in Historic Centreville Park on the 77th anniversary of this event! Crank home-made ice cream, spot airplanes, pose like Rosie the Riveter, and learn about other ways residents of Fairfax County helped support the War effort. Then tour the Spindle Sears House. Bring your own picnic. Donations accepted to support Historic Centreville Park. Located at 5714 Mt Gilead Road, Centreville Va. Canceled in the event of rain.
Walney Through the Years
(3-Adult) Join us for a free celebration of the past and future of Ellanor C. Lawrence Park. Mingle with reenactors, get up close and personal with animals, and explore the lives of the residents of Walney farm. Play games, take a wagon ride and try your hands at crafts and past-times of the past.
